Senior Housing Options is leading the way in awareness and action about the resilient COVID-19 Virus

In the wake of the statistic that over 80% of people who have died from COVID-19 are over 60, Senior Housing Options (SHO) has launched a robust campaign aimed at reaching 100% vaccination of our communities’ older adults which will help save lives.

Dedicated to providing residential communities and caring services to enrich the lives of older adults in Colorado at our five Assisted Living and six Affordable Housing communities across the state, SHO has partnered with the Department of Health and Human Services and  LeadingAge on a campaign that has been dubbed SHO Us Safety! SHO was previously awarded a “Vaccine Equity and Access Program” grant from the same funder in 2022. SHO’s Home Office is working with a seasoned Wellness Coordinator based at one of the properties to create incentives for staff and residents to take the updated, bivalent Covid-19 Booster that was released in September 2022. Employees who will have been vaccinated between September and May will receive a payroll bonus, while vaccinated residents will receive a gift card.

Vaccination clinics will be offered, free of charge, to residents, staff, family members, and neighbors of our facilities at six locations between May 4-11. These clinics will be provided either by local health providers or the Colorado Department of Health. Refreshments and/or a  meal will be provided at those sites on the day of their respective clinics. The urgency to complete the vaccinations by the end of May is rooted in the decision by the Biden  Administration to end the federal state of emergency, which has afforded a host of benefits and awareness campaigns since the advent of COVID-19, on May 11.

While many are of the opinion that COVID-19 is no longer a danger to public health, the fact that one of our Assisted Living communities recently sustained over 30 positive cases and remained in outbreak status for several weeks, testifies to the reality of the virus’ resilience and reinforces the need for protection from harmful effects such as hospitalization, prolonged fatigue, and even death.

The dates and sites of the clinics are as follows:

• Madison House Assisted Living (Cortez, CO) – May 4 from 10:00am – noon.

• Mesa Vista Assisted Living (Parachute, CO) – May 8 from 10:00am – noon.
